7 Engagement Spots in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario

February 25, 2022

The busiest season of “popping the question” is now over (Thanksgiving to Valentine’s Day). Which means the season for engagement shoots is right around the corner. We began our mini-series last year, on our favourite spots in London, Ontario. And in this post we are focusing on engagement spots in Kitchener-Waterloo.

The Waterloo region is fairly unique as it is home to the tri-cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge. Full of history, rich with beautiful architecture and parks a plenty, it’s a wonderful area. It also means that we had difficulty choosing our 7 favourite engagement spots! Keep reading to find out where you can get down on one knee or celebrate your promise of marriage, with an engagement shoot.

Engagement Spots in Kitchener-Waterloo

1. Huron Natural Area

With over 7 km of trails, this 250 acre green space is one of Kitchener’s largest. A protected forest and wetland area that flourishes wonderful flora and fauna. With so many little spots tucked away throughout the trails, the photo opportunities are endless.

2. Rockway Gardens

Tucked away between King Street East and Floral Crescent, this garden feels like a secret getaway. Since 1928 the Kitchener Horticulture Society has been tending it with care and love. With charming fountains, old growth trees and plenty of flowers it’s a delightful location in Kitchener-Waterloo

3. Schneider Creek

With just over 12 km of trails, this peaceful trail brings you into the thick of nature. The scenery is breathtaking as the paths wind and weave past waterways, forests and stunning flora and fauna. Furthermore, if you’re planning a proposal, choose a location for your photographer to hide to capture the magic moment ahead of time!

4. Victoria Park

Elegance and romance come together in the region’s oldest park (open since 1896). Some of the original features have stood the test of time and will whisk you away to another century. The beautiful iron bridge is stunning and a must-have background to any images taken here. Looking for a sweet spot to propose? Head to the pavillion just across the bridge on the tiny island.

5. Mill Race Park

Nestled along the Grand River in Cambridge, Mill Race Park is absolutely stunning. Without a doubt, it will have you smiling as you stroll through. This park tends to see an increase in visitors on weekends. However, they are open from 7am to 11pm so don’t be afraid to head on over in the early hours of the morning or later in the evening!

6. Downtown Gault

Of course we can’t talk about downtown Gault without mentioning it’s a star! This historic area of Cambridge has hosted some extremely popular TV shows. For instance, the Queen’s Gambit, Murdoch Mysteries and The Handmaid’s Tale to name a few. So, if you’re looking for building full of history and romance, look no further.

7. Downtown Kitchener-Waterloo

We love the downtown cores of both uptown Waterloo and downtown Kitchener. If you’re looking for more of an urban setting it’s a great option. Maybe there’s a favourite shop or eatery you both love. Include it in your engagement shoot to add a unique touch.
