Wedding Details: 10 Things You Might Forget

October 8, 2021

In the world of wedding planning there is probably nothing as disheartening as realizing you forgot something. The dread that slowly seeps over as your brain begins to scramble. Similar to second-hand embarrassment, it can affect those around you who also want to make sure that everything is perfect as well. We’ve been to a lot of weddings, and unfortunately there have been instances where things have just been forgotten. IT HAPPENS! And most importantly, it’s completely understandable. But that’s why we’ve compiled a list of the wedding details that may not be on your radar, but really should be.

1. A Plan B for Bad Weather

You’d be surprised at how many couples overlook this crucial wedding detail. If you’re hosting and outdoor ceremony, have an indoor back-up or covering ready. Going to take photos at an outdoor location. Plan to have at least one indoor option. Reception outdoors? Be sure to have an option to protect your guests for any inclement weather. If you’re having a tented wedding, inquire after how to close the flaps (sometimes it rains sideways…).

2. Factor the Bride and Groom into your Numbers

Especially when it comes to your caterer! Always start any guest list with yourselves to avoid this issue!

3. Appoint a Wedding Photo Cowboy

You’ll be stressed enough during your wedding, having to find grandma or your dad is not something you don’t need to be worrying about. Appoint a “photo cowboy” to be in charge of wrangling certain family members for photos. *Bonus* if you can ask a younger cousin or family friend; they’ll be excited by the challenge of racing though the guests to find who is needed.

4. Official or Unofficial ‘Day of’ Coordinator

On average a wedding usually has around 14 different vendors. Which means 14 groups of people with very specific tasks. If any kind of problem arises during any point of the day, as the bride or the groom, even as a maid of honor or best man you shouldn’t be dealing with these issues. Hiring a day of coordinator or appointing a friend or family member can make all the difference. At the very least, select this responsible person to be the point of contact for all the vendors if anything comes up. Professional coordinators can also ensure that speeches are given on time, the reception is properly prepared and that everything moves smoothly.

5. Know where your Dietary Restrictions/Allergies are Sitting

In the last few years, it’s really become a standard to ask about dietary restrictions or allergies on wedding invitations. But be sure to provide your caterer with a detailed seating chart so they know exactly what is going where – everyone will appreciate this tiny detail.

6. SHOES!

Consider your footwear. Bring alternatives. Remember that your wedding dress will more than likely cover your feet. If you’re headed to a location for photos that is outdoors, bring options to avoid a fall in your wedding dress! Furthermore, if you’re planning on dancing the night away. Don’t dance your feet away!

7. Wedding Dress Alterations

Without a doubt, wedding alterations and the timeline for wedding dress shopping surprise many brides. Be sure to purchase your dress at least 8 months before your wedding. It takes time for your dress to arrive, what you. originally try on is not what you’ll be bringing home. When you purchase your dress, book your alterations, you’ll have a fitting once the dress arrives. A second fitting 6-8 weeks out. And potentially a third a few weeks after that.

8. Know your Sunset Times

Don’t miss golden hour. Your future self will thank you. Ask your photographers to take a few gorgeous shots during the sunset.

9. Prepare an Anti-Song List

Many people will prepare a list for the DJ or band of songs they want to hear. But. There may be songs that you don’t want at your wedding reception. Have a list of – do not play.

10. Food for the Day of

Last but certainly not least. Pack a lunch bag for the day of. You may have a beautiful dinner waiting for you but the rest of the day – don’t go hungry! No one wants a hangry bride.

At the end of the day, your wedding will be beautiful. You get to marry your best friend. What can be better than that?
