5 Things to Splurge On For Your Wedding

July 31, 2021

Weddings are expensive. Granted most people are only hoping to have one wedding, but still the finances of your big day are a big deal. And everyone knows that so much of wedding planning comes down to your wedding budget.. There are things to splurge on (in our opinion) and things to skip. This is part 1 of 2 of a mini-series that is going to be covering our Top Five Things to Splurge on followed by our Top Five Things to Skip for your big day!

Most of us are not in the position to be able to splurge on every detail of our weddings, and so being selective is key. We’ve been in the business for a long time. We’ve covered many weddings and have spoken to many clients.

Here are our top 5 things to splurge on!

Amazing Wedding Photographer(s)

We may be a little biased, but hear us out. Your wedding is your celebration, curated to what you love. Whether it’s simple and sweet or beautifully elaborate. Photography allows you to remember forever. As the years go by, everytime you take a look at your photos you’ll be taken back through time. A picture is worth not only a thousand words but also a thousand feelings. Selecting photographers that embody your style, whose portfolio has you in awe (psst. this is the sign to take a look at our portfolio) is something you won’t regret.

Splurge on Delicious Food (and Drink)

Eat, drink and be married. That’s how that saying goes, right? Not much can rival a good ol’ feast. Shop around for a good caterer. Read reviews and reach out to past clients to get a good feel of your food providers. If you have attended a wedding where the food was not up to par you’ll know it’s important. It’s also an area to splurge on. You and your guests will be happy to enjoy a good meal.

Don’t forget about drinks! If you’re hosting an alcohol-free wedding there are many alternatives that will have everyone smiling. And if you are including liquor and beer, a selection of a few favourites will still keep the budgets in check but it’s always a way to get the party started!

Getting your Glam on (Hair and Makeup)

If there’s any day that you want to look and feel your best, it’s your wedding day. Don’t hesitate to spend a little more on a team that will have you feeling like a celebrity for the day. The last thing you need is a hair or makeup fail on your wedding, so don’t forget to add a trial, even if it’s pricey. You’ll feel a lot more comfortable knowing what the final result will look like on the day that it counts.

Wedding Planner/Coordinator

As we previously mentioned, most people only hope to plan a single wedding. Which is what makes wedding planners and coordinators so valuable. What you spend on these professionals you’ll end up saving on stress. Not only are they well connected and know the ins and outs of vendors, but they are seasoned in ensuring wedding days flow smoothly. By the end of your wedding day you’ll most definitely feel like your investment has paid off.

A Honeymoon or Mini-Moon

Time away after months of planning is heavenly. To be able to get away as newlyweds is something you’ll always cherish. Choose either a shorter getaway (dubbed a mini-moon) or splurge on a longer trip. Setting aside a good portion of your budget straight from the start will be the perfect start to married life.

While our next blog post will cover areas where you can save, selecting a few things to splurge on will keep your wedding budget under control.
